"A Nation Undivided" was composed by Mark Wolfram for large brass choir and percussion. It's an ode to the spirit of the American people - while not always in harmony, always resolute and ultimately undivided. The ensemble consists of 6 Bb Trumpets, 5 French Horns, 2 Tenor Trombones, 1 Bass Trombone, 2 Euphoniums, 2 Tubas, Timpani, Snare Drum and Piatti. The composition is based on an opening series of fanfare passages. With a comfortable 92 bpm tempo throughout, the rhythms excite due to the use of syncopation, hemiola and double tonguing. Rich, complex sonorities soar and are contrasted by the tasteful employment of poly-chords and the punctuation of percussion. Every performer in this piece has their "featured" moment, if only for a few measures. "A Nation Undivided" is a GRADE 4-5 work and highlights the performer's mastery of varied intervalic leaps, precise articulations, syncopated rhythms and contrasting dynamics. Perfect as either an opener or closer for any concert - even a church prelude or postlude. The duration is approximately 2:40. The set contains 21 parts for performers and a bound, full-sized transposed conductor's score. Available only through this website from Sound Studio Publications. |
